Bluebird Care is supporting Autism Awareness Week 2019, an annual campaign run by the National Autistic Society from 1-7 April 2019.

The week is centred around the internationally recognised Autism Awareness Day which takes place on the 2nd April and encourages people to take part in a full 7 days of activities to help raise money and awareness for the National Autistic Society.

There are around 700,000 people in the UK who are on the autism spectrum – that’s 1 in 100 people. If you include families too, it affects over 2.8 million people across the country. It is a ‘hidden’ disability, meaning that you cannot always tell if someone is autistic. Autism is incurable but getting the right support can make a big difference to people’s lives.

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s largest provider of specialist autism services and supports over 100,000 people every year through a network of dedicated staff and volunteers.

This year, the National Autistic Society is embracing and promoting various initiatives to help raise awareness and important funds to support those living with the condition during Autism Awareness Week. People are encouraged to fundraise in their local schools and communities, take part in their Spectrum Night Walk or walk or run 7k for the 700k – the amount of people in the UK with autism.

We hope to raise awareness of the condition across [areas], improving the support that those living with autism receive. If you would like to get involved and help to fundraise, you can find out more information here.
