Bluebird Care Celebrates Customer’s 80th Birthday

Bluebird Care Newbury was delighted this month to mark a customer’s 80th birthday with a big celebration. Michael Mercer, a valued member of the community, was treated to a fantastic party upon reaching the momentous occasion.



Michael is a regular attendee of Bluebird Care Newbury’s monthly “Craft and Cuppa” sessions, which are held at the Hook & Kingsclere Care Hub below the office itself. They aim to combat loneliness amongst its older customers in the local area. They offer the chance for customers to meet up regularly for afternoon tea and craft-making, learning new skills whilst enjoying a good chat. This month (August), Bluebird Care Newbury hosted a very special kind of session with a birthday party for Michael attended by fellow customers and friends.

Living alone at home, Michael appreciates meeting other Bluebird customers at the Craft and Cuppa sessions, which is testament to how sociable and chatty he is. The new friends he has made at the sessions enjoy hearing his stories about his childhood (in the very same house he still lives in now!) and working life as a gardener and lorry driver.

Michael reached out to Bluebird Care after a couple of falls slightly affected his mobility and confidence. Bluebird Care Care Assistants visit him once a week to check he’s okay and keep an eye on his general wellbeing so his family have peace of mind that he’s well. As his family do not live locally, it was important both to them and Bluebird Care that Michael celebrated his birthday in style.

Everyone at the session was happy to come together to mark Michael’s birthday with gifts, laughter, and, of course, a birthday cake.
