Bluebird Care Slough, S.Bucks & S.Wycombe take action to make the community dementia friendly

We are excited to be helping the village become a designated ‘Dementia Friendly Community’, by becoming an active member of the Dementia Action Alliance.
We are excited to be helping the village become a designated ‘Dementia Friendly Community’, by becoming an active member of the Dementia Action Alliance.Along with Buckinghamshire County Council, we have become one of the alliance’s member organisations, which will help to create the community.
As an alliance member, we have committed to signing up all 120 of its staff as ‘Dementia Friends’ and to encourage its workers to attend any local training available. It also plans to hold information sessions, where local businesses and members of the community can learn more about living with dementia.
Our deputy care manager, Katy Cresswell said:
As we work towards creating a ‘Dementia Friendly Community’, we will be actively spreading the word about how to successfully become a dementia-friendly shop or business. We can help people with the key steps they need to take, so it’s not a daunting task.
As an organisation we are committed to bringing about change for local people living with or dealing with dementia. Dementia affects so many people locally, but we can really make a difference if we work together as a community.”
We have a programme of ongoing dementia training for care staff. In July 2015, it won an employer Achiever Award from Bracknell and Wokingham College after 11 of its carers completed BTECs in Dementia Care. The award, usually reserved for individual students, was given in special recognition of its commitment to staff training.As an organisation we are committed to bringing about change for local people living with or dealing with dementia. The Dementia Action Alliance brings together organisations across England committed to transforming the lives of people with dementia and their carers. It describes the 'Working to become Dementia Friendly' symbol as a qualification in becoming a dementia friendly community.
