According to the Alzheimer's Society there are 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia. Dementia groups can help support people with dementia. They are an important way in which individuals can have emotional support and practical advice about how dementia affects their lives. It’s an opportunity to make friends with others who are in a similar situation, share experiences and have a positive approach to dementia.

The Great Camden Minds is a dementia involvement group based in the London Brough of Camden. The group aims to reduce the stigma of dementia, have a say in dementia services and policies and provide peer support.

Great Camden Minds frequently have different speakers regarding services relevant to their aims and are also involved in research. The group is currently supported by DEEP, Camden Carers Centre and Age UK Camden.

George Morris, Director of Bluebird Care Camden & Hampstead, commented:

“If you have been diagnosed with dementia, care for someone with dementia or even if you just want to know more, pop along to The Great Camden Minds group which meets on the third Friday of every month in Belsize Park.

This friendly group have previously collaborated with Bluebird Care Camden & Hampstead to host and attend different Dementia awareness events. Dementia UK states that 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 are affected by dementia, so it’s very important to have dementia information and support available.”
