MEAAP Annual Celebration 2017

On Tuesday 17th October we were invited to attend Mid & East Antrim Agewell Partnership’s (MEAAP) Annual Celebration at the Tullyglass House Hotel in Ballymena.

On Tuesday 17th October we were invited to attend Mid & East Antrim Agewell Partnership’s (MEAAP) Annual Celebration at the Tullyglass House Hotel in Ballymena.

MEAAP is a local inter-agency based partnership which aims to improve the lives of people aged 60 and over in the Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus areas.

The services offered by MEAAP include: Good Morning services; Handyman Services; Advice, Information, and Signposting; Social Activities Programme; Partner Referrals; and, opportunities to Volunteer.

At the Annual Celebration, MEAAP launched their newest service, Community Navigator.  The Community Navigator service aims to enable older people access to local services and activities that will improve their health, well-being and, independence.  The Community Navigator service includes signposting to appropriate services, raising awareness of statutory, voluntary, and community support, increasing the knowledge of available support to all including NHSCT staff, mapping existing services and sharing information.

We were guided through events and programmes that had taken place over the last year, current projects being undertaken, and also plans for future projects.

Speakers on the day included: Deirdre McCloskey, MEAAP Project Coordinator; Jean Haveron, MEAAP Chair; Cllr Paul Reid, Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council; Jenny Dougan, MEAAP Community Navigator; Linda Robinson, Age NI Chief Executive; Pamela Craig, NHSCT; and, Eddie Lynch; Commissioner for Older People of Northern Ireland.

To end the day on a high, MEAAP were presented with ‘The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’.  The Queen’s Award for Voluntary service is the highest civic award that can be achieved by volunteer led organisations across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their local community.

The award was presented by Deputy Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim, Mr Eric Rainey CVO MBE DL, and, Walter Rader, the Northern Ireland Representative for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
