Our amazing carer, Carol, has been at it again raising more money for charity, but this time she completed a whopping 75-mile challenge!

On Saturday 22nd June, Carol was one of many to attempt the gruelling challenge, which started at Denbies Vineyard in Dorking at 7am. The round loop began with hundreds of runners ready to go at the start line all with different aims, from half marathons to 100 miles or running on the hour every hour. Carol shares her take on the 75-mile route, which she covered to raise funds for her chosen charities, Cancer Research and Alzheimer’s Research.

“It was a mile long route taking us through the grape vines, with views to die for.  I covered 20 miles before stopping to have something to eat, then off out again this time covering a further 15 miles as I had slowed down to run and walk due to the heat. At 9.15pm I collected my body torch and after a change of clothes and shoes, I set off into the night accompanied by bats flying around our heads and a still and silent night.

“I stopped again at 2am due to feeling cold and needing to warm up. I had 2 hours sleep before getting back out to carry on running, with a brief stop for breakfast. Then met up with a fellow runner who was looking for company and we walked the rest until I had hit 75 miles.”

Carol also mentioned that she couldn’t have done this without the support of her husband, Bob. She is also planning on doing it again next year but increasing the distance to 100 miles!

We are so proud of Carol’s achievement. She is an inspiration to us all and no doubt we will be covering more of Carol’s adventures in the near future.
