In light of mental health awareness week, Bluebird Care Newcastle reflect on how to stay active for their mental health.

Everyone moves in different ways and considering mental health awareness week, we investigate how our team keep themselves active. Read more to see how we keep our minds active, from running to meditation to journaling.

 

Meditate 4:30am each day, Journal and mindfulness 5am, Gym - 5:30 3 days per week, Run 3 times per week

I do a grounding mindfulness activity called “5, 4, 3, 2”.  When I am out and about, I identify 5 things I can see, 4 things I can touch, 3 things I can hear and 2 things I can smell”.  I also use breathing exercises as a calming tool.  Sometimes I follow breathing videos on YouTube, and sometimes I just breath in for 3, hold for 3, breath out for 3, and hold for 3

I keep active with my kids who are 5 and 7 years old, we like to go to Saltwell park and walk around the lake or to the beach and walk along the sea front. I also like to go for walks on my lunch break

The way I keep active is by going to the gym, I love to do spinning and high intensity training. I also love a long walk or a hike. Recently I’ve got into journaling, and it has been affecting me positively, I do it before bed so I have a nice clear head before going to sleep

I teach dancing two days a week as well as dance myself. I do around six different styles that keep me active and can mix it up depending on my mood. Walking is one of my favourite things to do to clear my mind besides dancing, a Sunday morning walk along the seafront is something I look forward to every week

The easiest way for me to get my mind active is through exercise and getting outdoors… whether it’s an early dog walk on the beach, a long run or a visit to the gym. I also find that when I am up very on in the morning before the noise of the day starts I can be most productive and get the most out of my time and days.

Exercise is the best thing to support a healthy body and healthy mind. I go to boxing most nights after work to help with my mental health, I find that I feel down and lethargic if I don’t get to exercise for a few days
