A trip down memory lane - Beamish Museum replicates Mineworkers’ Homes from Marsden Road in South Shields

What is more special than being able to visit history of your own town?

Beamish has recently revealed a new development of replicas of Mineworkers homes from Marsden Road in South Shields, somewhere very familiar to us at Bluebird Care Newcastle and South Tyneside. We believe that this will shine light on the hard work our miners did in South Shields, opening the history up to people who visit Beamish all around the world.

Two of these homes will be open for visitors, to see the wonderful history around them and experience the cosy and warm feel of the home, although the overall aim of these homes is to provide care sessions for those with dementia and long-term health conditions, which is something that will be very beneficial to our customers in the future.

The visitors of the homes will be able to discover what life was like for retired miners in the 1950’s, everything has been done with huge effort, replicating the exact decorations, interior and lighting. It was very important for it to be as accurate as possible.

These sessions that are taking place in the homes will also help with mental health, loneliness and isolation which will include a cottage environment that includes open fires and an environment that feels like home.

At Bluebird Care Newcastle and South Tyneside, we feel very strongly about helping our customers tackle their loneliness and long-term illnesses and this being put in place could be a huge benefit to our customers. In the future, a day out could be arranged to view the 1950’s Town, taking a trip down memory lane and potentially being reminded of their old days.
