Nick Griffiths, our inspiring Head of Learning and Development at Bluebird Care, recently achieved an extraordinary feat: running seven marathons in seven days to raise nearly £2,500 for Alzheimer’s Society.

This awe-inspiring accomplishment is just one part of Bluebird Care’s dedication to supporting Alzheimer’s Society, as we aim to raise an incredible £50,000 by September to help people living with dementia.

Nick’s journey began on the 17th of August, when he laced up his trainers for the first of seven 26.2-mile runs. Over the course of the week, Nick covered an astonishing 183.5 miles, all while weaving his routes around the beautiful North Portsmouth area, close to his home. One of his routes even involved hopping on a ferry to connect two parts of the coastal path!

His final marathon brought him to Waterlooville, where he crossed the finish line at Bluebird Care’s head office—smiling despite the immense challenge and ready for a well-earned rest.

To take on this challenge, Nick dedicated himself to a demanding training schedule, running 80 miles a week in preparation. Balancing this with his role at Bluebird Care, raising two young daughters, and serving as a physical training instructor in the Army Reserve, Nick’s achievement is nothing short of remarkable.

Reflecting on his journey, Nick said:

Not only has this been an incredible personal achievement, but I also feel remarkably proud to have contributed towards Bluebird Care’s milestone fundraising partnership and supported the endlessly important work of Alzheimer’s Society. It’s certainly been no easy feat, but to have done it for a cause that the entire Bluebird Care team and I believe in so wholeheartedly made it all worth it!

Nick’s marathon challenge is part of our wider effort to support Alzheimer’s Society. Since launching our partnership in May, Bluebird Care teams across the country have hosted skydives, tea parties, and other events in support of this vital cause. At our annual conference in September, Dame Arlene Phillips OBE, our Celebrity Champion, will join Chief Executive Jonathan Gardner to present the total donation to Alzheimer’s Society.

But our commitment doesn’t stop at fundraising. At Bluebird Care, we’re striving to lead the way in dementia home care. Alongside raising funds, we’ve pledged to equip our entire team of 10,000 with dementia training through the Dementia Friends initiative. This includes a structured programme of specialist training, ensuring we continue to provide expert, compassionate care for every family we support.

Nick’s dedication reminds us all of what’s possible when we pull together for a cause that matters. To everyone who has cheered Nick on, donated, or taken part in fundraising activities—you’re helping to make a real difference.
