Support groups in the area for you and your family

Age UK Portsmouth

The Bradbury Centre, 16-18 Kingston Road, PO1 5RZ.

The group runs various social activities as well as running training groups for IT teaching for elderly, foot care services, ear microsuction, hairdressing etc. They also run a Coffee & Company session on the first and third Friday of the month from 1.30pm-3.00pm . Rowans Hospice

Rowans Hospice is a charity that provides guidance and support to people living in Portsmouth who are living with a life-limiting and progressive illness. You do not need to be referred by doctors but you can directly contact them for help.

Rowans hospice services focuses on maintaining a quality of life by relieving the symptoms associated with the life-limiting illness. They have a holistic approach to their care for the family, friends and the carers of their beloved. 

They have an in-patient unit with 19 beds in Purbeck  but the centre also provides well-being support groups and services to plan the future care needs. There is also a small unit to support people to die within their own home if they wish that.

Remind Portsmouth 

Support and advice for those living with dementia, their carers or family members.

Remind is a service who will support people who are diagnosed living with Dementia. It is a journey and with practical help and guidance they will help you to maintain your independance and connect with your local community. 

The Remind team will set up a home assessment for you and your beloved, where they can help you to get support and an ongoing plan mapped out for the Dementia journey.

With the help of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, they can work to stimulate the memory, thinking skills and help with building confidence.

They can sign post you to various activities groups across the areas where you can share your experiences and enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, board games and exercise classes.

Practical advice on implements at home, so you can live independently.

Portsmouth Interaction

Portsmouth interaction provides a service for people living within the city who are experiencing ill mental health. Through offering a variety of low cost recreational activities from fitness to wellbeing, the scheme looks to pave a way for people to build new skills and gain confidence to allow them to move back into mainstream groups. Support staff, who are specially trained to support clients with a range of conditions, will be on hand to help along the way, offering regular progress reviews.

Portsmouth Stroke Squad

The Portsmouth Stroke Squad is a group of stroke survivors who are finding support and comfort in sharing their experiences and advice. The group is to give you emotional support and also guidance.
