Live-In Care Assistant Fe has been shortlisted for the Stars of Social Care Awards 2024

Congratulations to Live-In Care Assistant Fe on being a finalist in the Stars of Social Care Awards! 🎉

Selected by a panel of expert judges, including the CEO of Care England, the winners will be announced at The Marriott Regents Park next month by host Josie Gibson.

Fe recently celebrated eleven years as a Bluebird. Throughout this time, she has repeatedly evidenced that her approach empowers and transforms her customers’ lives.

For her nomination, we approached the nephew of her customer Mr I. Fe has supported Mr I for two years, helping him with the transition home from a residential care facility. Mr I said:

“When we met Fe, a lot of our trust in carers had gone due to our experience with the care home. We had a lot of reassurance from the team about her experience, her previous customer feedback and so on, but we approached the arrangement with a fair amount of trepidation. Fe was calm, quiet and determined. She immediately took the lead and focused my uncle’s support on rehabilitation so he could regain more independence."

"She grabbed this with both hands and set to work as a sort of kind taskmaster. He worked hard to learn how to get up out of his chair, support himself on his walker, take steps around the room. He’d say things like, “She makes me go a bit further each time” and “We are working towards the hallway.” I didn’t know what that meant until one day Fe told me he’d made it up and down the four little steps in his ground floor which meant he could now access his dining room and his front door. This was the key to freedom! He could now access the wider world and has been enjoying Sunday church at the top of his road, coffees, lunches etc."

"We didn’t know it at the time, but she’d identified that he had too much salt in his diet so she cut his salt intake right down and it reduced the severe swelling he’d been experiencing in his ankles and feet. I have no doubt this supported his increased mobility."

"Fe is a wonderful listener and happily absorbs my uncle’s many stories - most of which are repeated daily as he has dementia and forgets she’s heard them dozens of times before! She does this with grace and kindness, never telling him otherwise. Unlike his previous experience, he has a choice of what to do, what to eat, what to watch, where to go and this gives him a feeling of freedom and control. Fe cares deeply about his well-being and happiness. That is all we’ve ever wanted. My uncle is thriving; he couldn’t be happier. He is at home, surrounded by his memories, and is comfortable and as fit as he possibly can be. This is all thanks to Fe and the team at Bluebird Care.”
