The day was strategically organised into several sessions, each designed to give learners a holistic view of what it’s like to work in the care industry. By covering a range of topics from office-based roles to hands on clinical skills, the masterclass aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various aspects of working in health and social care. This approach ensured that learners could appreciate the interconnected nature of different roles and responsibilities within the sector, preparing them for the diverse challenges and opportunities they might face in their future careers.

Overview of Sessions

Introduction to Bluebird Care and Our Services

The day began with an informative session introducing Bluebird Care, outlining the wide range of services we deliver. Learners gained a comprehensive understanding of our commitment to providing high-quality home care and support, emphasizing the importance of personalized care plans tailored to individual needs.

Office-Based Roles

Deputy Manager and Coordinator This session offered an in-depth look at the critical roles within our office, focusing on the responsibilities of Deputy Managers and Coordinators. Attendees learned about the coordination of care services, managing teams, and ensuring compliance with care standards, which are essential for maintaining the high standards of Bluebird Care.

Role of the Carer

A central part of the masterclass was dedicated to exploring the vital role of carers. Through detailed presentations and discussions, learners discovered the day-to-day responsibilities of carers, the challenges they face, and the profound impact they have on the lives of those they support.

Clinical Skills Demonstration

Practical skills are crucial in the care sector. Our clinical skills demonstration provided learners with hands-on experience in essential clinical procedures, enhancing their confidence and competence in performing these tasks.

Falls Procedures

Falls are a significant concern in health and social care. This session focused on the procedures and protocols for preventing and managing falls, highlighting the importance of risk assessment and prompt response to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.

Preparing for a Care Role Interview and Employment Readiness

Understanding how to effectively prepare for a care role interview is vital for securing employment. This session provided learners with tips and strategies for presenting themselves confidently and professionally, ensuring they can showcase their skills and passion for the care industry. To conclude the masterclass, we focused on employment readiness, offering guidance on what employers in the care sector look for, the essential skills and attributes required, and how to stand out in the job market.

The masterclass was a remarkable experience, thanks in large part to the warm hospitality of Newcastle College. Their welcoming environment provided the perfect setting for an engaging and productive day. The learners were not only accommodating but also demonstrated a strong willingness to engage with the material. Their enthusiasm was evident in the insightful questions they asked, showing their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios in the care industry. This level of interaction and eagerness to learn highlights the potential these students have to excel in their future careers.

It was wonderful to hear the initial feedback from both the learners and the staff team during the event. We eagerly anticipate reviewing the formal feedback that is currently being collected. The Health and Social Care teachers were particularly impressed with how the day was organized. One lecturer commented:

You have very high expectations, which I respect. Despite the challenge of non-teachers delivering to 19+ learners, your staff were amazing. One of our Lecturers, known for her exceptionally high standards for herself and others, praised the session as fantastic, and all the learners loved it!
