Over the past few weeks some of our care team have been busy attending a Makaton Course which was provided by Amanda Haslam, Makaton Regional Tutor.

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.

Sarah Hines, Care Assistant said,
Makaton will help to break down language barriers and assist in communicating with customers.  I am keen to put these new skills into practice.
Sally Kidd, Care Supervisor said,
We love to support our customers in the community and Makaton has given me a great understanding of what services are available to help them with communication.
Being able to communicate is one of the most important skills we need in life. Almost everything we do involves communication; everyday tasks such as learning at school, asking for food and drink, sorting out problems, making friends and having fun. These all rely on our ability to communicate with each other.

Amanda Haslam, Makaton regional Tutor said,
I was delighted to teach the Bluebird Care team.  They all had a very positive attitude and have shown great enthusiasm over the course.
By using Makaton, anyone with communication difficulty can benefit helping them to make choices, form social relationships and help with understanding and expression.
I’m sure Makaton will help the girls in their roles to support their customers with communication.
Well done to the team on achieving their 'Makaton Certificate'
