The Importance of Upholding Dignity

At Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, we're partnering with Roche Legal to celebrate dignity within the workplace.

As you may know, February 1st is Dignity Action Day, providing the perfect opportunity for health and social care workers and members of the public to uphold people's rights to dignity.

Although dignity is something we believe should be practised everywhere and in every circumstance, we feel that, when it comes to caring, dignity should always be a priority.

Dignity in Care

At Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, one of our core values is to treat our customers with the utmost dignity and respect at all times. Many will find both the transition into and the upkeep of personal care to be a daunting experience, so we need to make sure our customers are as comfortable as they can be.

The key to comfort, in our opinion, is to feel respected and dignified at all times. Although being in your own home contributes to that rather significantly, dignity needs to remain intact for you to feel secure and safe.

This is why we have many measures in place; to ensure our customers always feel dignified, no matter the situation. For instance, our customers are always given a choice - we never dictate to them. Although there is a personalised care plan in place for each customer that our care professionals must follow, our customers know we will never take away their rights or their choices.

The care industry was one of the most negatively impacted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but we never swayed from our beliefs. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to stay at home, to live their lives the way they want, and to feel dignified every step of the way.

Dignity Champions

Protecting our customer's dignity is at the top of our priority list, alongside making sure they are safe and healthy. This is why every member of our team is a certified Dignity Champion. Dignity Champions believe being treated with dignity is a basic human right and that the care industry should always be compassionate and person-centred.

Here are a few words from our very own Dignity Champions:

Partnering with Roche Legal

The Roche Legal team offers practical legal services designed to make lives easier, helping their clients to achieve a better future by assisting with Will Writing, Power of Attorney, and much more. They always endeavour to show compassion and understanding as they often deal with emotionally challenging situations.

Like Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, Roche Legal value empathy and dignity, which is why we have decided to partner with them to help promote Dignity Action Day! We will be putting together a delicious afternoon tea to celebrate our shared interests in upholding dignity within our respective industries and to show how we implement dignity into our services.

It is so important for businesses with the same beliefs to work together to spread awareness, especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as upholding the dignity of vulnerable people.

Join us on Tuesday 14th February for a delicious afternoon tea, between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, to learn all about how we, as an award-winning home care company, uphold dignity.
