What is Live-In Care?

When you need round-the-clock care but want to remain in the comfort of your own home, live-in care could be the solution. What Does Live-In Care Include?

A popular alternative to residential care, live-in care sees a dedicated care assistant stay with you in your home to offer support or a helping hand at a moment’s notice. Our services are centred around your personal needs, routines, and preferences – it’s our goal to support you in living your life on your terms. Live-in care services include:

  • Support with bathing, toileting, and dressing
  • Help with preparing delicious, healthy meals
  • Household chores (including laundry and general cleaning)
  • Accompaniment on outings (including grocery shopping and visits with family or friends)
  • Daily companionship
  • Overnight care
  • Specialist care (including catheter care and stoma care)
  • And much more

It’s important to remember that everyone’s needs are different, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach to live-in care. Instead, we will create a tailored plan that allows you to embrace your independence and offers support where you need it most.

What Are the Benefits of Live-In Care?

Live-in care offers several benefits that are simply not available with other types of care.

  • It eliminates the stress of having to leave (or even sell) the family home
  • It allows you to remain in your local community, amongst friends and family
  • It prevents married couples from being separated
  • It allows you to continue engaging in your favourite pastimes (with your favourite people)
  • It allows you to live independently with the support you need

We are also very supportive of family involvement and understand that many people prefer to have their family or friends with them every step of the way.

Have a Question About Live-In Care?

Does a live-in care assistant work 24/7?

While your live-in care assistant will stay with you in your home, they’re not expected to work 24 hours a day. As a general guideline, they usually work eight to 10 hours a day, with their day split between contact/work time and non-contact/downtime.

How much does live-in care cost?

Our live-in care costs are dependent on each person, the  level of their care needs, and the number of hours that the assistant will be considered ‘working’. If you require 24-hour care, for example, a second assistant may be required to bridge the gap.

How are carers assigned?

We will arrange an assessment with one of our trained assessors, who will visit you at home and spend some time getting to know you, your hobbies, and your interests. This will enable us to match you with a carer that is compatible with you and your lifestyle.

Why is CQC-regulated care important?

Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulation means that the live-in care service you’re using is fully regulated by an independent body for your peace of mind. This means  we’re regularly monitored for things like safety, effectiveness, and responsiveness.

Who is Live-In Care For?

Almost anyone who has care and support needs but doesn’t want to leave the comfort and familiarity of their home can be supported by live-in care.

If you want to live at home but do not feel that you can do so safely or happily on your own, a live-in care service could be the solution. It can be a great long-term solution for some people to ensure that their ongoing care and support needs are met, while others may only require it for a short time (when returning from the hospital or to give your regular carer a break).

Our highly trained assessors can help you determine whether live-in care is the right choice for you and your support needs at this time.

Choose Live-In Care for Independent Living

Live-in care offers flexibility that other types of care services, such as visiting hourly care or residential care, simply cannot provide. This is because your care assistant is with you all day and all night, so you aren’t tied to a specific timeframe for activities and tasks to be carried out.

The care and support we provide at Bluebird Care Bournemouth and Poole are entirely tailored to you, your needs, and your preferences – there is no such thing as a standard or generic live-in care package; we are here to support you in whatever ways you need.
