Care Inspectorate

What is the Care Inspectorate?

The Care Inspectorate is a Scottish scrutiny body set in place to ensure that care providers across Scotland meet high standards.

With over 11,000 registered care services in Scotland, it is their responsibility to ensure that they regularly visit each one to speak with the team and their customers and undertake reviews of documents to ensure all comply with the same standards. Where they find improvement is needed, they support the services to make positive changes.

What should I look for in a home care provider?

It can be difficult when looking for a home care provider to know where to start.  There are lots of providers out there and if you've never had to look into it before it can feel overwhelming. The best thing to do is to do your research.

1. Who is the area that can support your needs?

2. Do you know anyone who can provide you with recommendations?

3. If you enquire with a provider, how quickly do they respond to you and what information do they give you?

4. What availability do providers have? Sometimes a little wait is ok.

5. What does their Care Inspectorate say? Do not accept below the grade 'Good' and look for instances where a provider is called out for being 'Very Good'.
