Helping your dad live his life with arthritis. So you can live yours.

logoComplex Care

Arthritis can have a huge impact on your life, affecting your ability to live comfortably and independently. But you’re not alone. Approximately 10 million people* in the UK live with arthritis.

We understand that it can be a painful and often debilitating condition. For some people it can greatly impair mobility and make everyday tasks difficult to manage. That’s why we offer assisted living.

Here at Bluebird Care, we offer practical arthritis care at home, so you can continue living your life, on your terms, in familiar surroundings.

We want to help you with your everyday life, but also support you in achieving your goals - whatever they may be. We’ll work with you to come up with an arthritis care plan, tailored to your unique needs with plenty of support. This includes:

  • Morning visits to help get you up and ready for your day
  • Assisting with household tasks including cleaning and laundry
  • Helping with errands such as the food shop (or running them for you)
  • Managing and administering medications as needed
  • Supporting you to take part in your favourite activities
  • Preparing meals and offering assistance with feeding if needed
  • Keeping you mobile with gentle exercise

Maintaining independence is super important for people living with arthritis. And that’s why we make sure that our tailored arthritis care plans minimise disruption to your usual routine and allow you to stay in your own home, amongst your memories and possessions.

There are a few different types of arthritis and the type of care you may need depends on this. Get in touch to find the right kind of arthritis care plan for you.

Types of Arthritis

As you may know, arthritis is caused by an inflammation of one or more joints. Typically, it’s a lifelong condition that affects people of any age, including children.

Though the condition is more common as we age, certain autoimmune diseases, broken bones, or bacterial or viral infections can trigger arthritic issues.

That’s why it’s important to understand which type of arthritis you have, as it will dictate the type of care you need.

There are many types of arthritis, but the three most common are:

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition that usually presents in people over 50. It gradually erodes the cartilage lining that prevents joint bones from rubbing together, leading to stiffness, pain, and loss of movement.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the joint lining, resulting in constant pain, loss of function, and long-term joint damage.

People with rheumatoid arthritis are also at higher risk of developing problems with other tissues and organs in their bodies.

Juvenile Arthritis

Juvenile arthritis refers to any arthritis-related condition that develops in those under the age of 18.

The most common type of juvenile arthritis is known as idiopathic arthritis, where swelling of the joints lasting six weeks or longer.

Arthritis Care at Home

Although arthritis is a chronic condition, treatment and lifestyle changes can help to reduce pain, improve function, and reduce the risk of any further damage to the affected joints.

Your doctor may prescribe medicines to ease the pain and reduce inflammation. But in more serious cases, surgery (such as joint replacements) may be recommended.

Alongside advice from your doctor, it may also be possible to address symptoms with mild to moderate exercise such as low-impact aerobics, strength training, and motion exercises. Heat, ice, water, and massage therapies might also have a positive impact.

Getting started

With our personally tailored arthritis support, we can help you manage your condition in the comfort of your own home. This prevents the need for moving to an assisted living facility, which can be costly and disruptive.

When it comes to arthritis care, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, our Care Experts will work with you to develop an arthritis support plan tailored to your unique needs, allowing you to enjoy your life on your terms.
