Palliative & End of Life care

It’s good to feel at peace with palliative care

logoComplex Care

If someone you love has a life-threatening illness, it can feel completely overwhelming. The tremendous emotional pain, the sense of impending loss, the desire to help your loved one with their symptoms, even just the practical pressures of coping with it all.

That’s why our Palliative Care exists. To give you and your loved ones the support you need during this most trying of times.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative Care is designed for people who have a terminal illness that can’t be cured. The idea is to manage their pain and make them as comfortable as possible, for as long as possible. Some people, for instance, might receive Palliative Care for years.

Empathetic and experienced

Our Care Experts aren’t just skilled at the technical side of things. They’ve also got big hearts and they really care about supporting you in whatever way they can, from the moment your loved one is diagnosed right up until the final weeks and months.

And along with the rest of our Palliative Care team, they have lots of experience too. They know what you’re going through, because they’ve seen people in your shoes before. And as difficult as it all seems, they can help you and your loved one make the most of it.

End of Life Care

End of Life Care is a form a Palliative Care. It offers support to people with terminal illnesses who are thought to be in the last year of their life. As with Palliative Care, the goal is to give people relief from the symptoms, pain and stress of serious illness.

That way your loved one can be as comfortable as possible.

Making the most of your time together

Everyone has the right to choose where they spend the last days of their life. And for a lot of people, that means staying at home, surrounded by the friends and family who mean so much to them.

For those who choose End of Life Care, you can be sure we’ll do everything in our power to give your loved one the best quality of life we can. Which means treating them with dignity. Treating them like family. And helping them make the most of the time they have left with you.

How it works

We’ll start by making an End of Life care plan that puts your loved one at the heart of everything. What they need. How they can be more comfortable. Different ways to respect their faith. How they want to spend the time they have left, and with who.

As long as your loved one approves, we’ll work with you and other family members as part of the process. That way, everyone feels involved. At a time like this, it’s especially important to have open and honest communication, even if it’s not always what you want to hear. By being honest, yet sensitive, we can ensure you’ll be kept up-to-speed on all the different care options available to you.

Once the care begins, our Care Experts start. Fully trained in End of Life Care, they’ll help you through the difficult days. They’ll track your loved-one’s symptoms, help them maintain their dignity and keep them as comfortable as possible. They’ll also work with you to ensure your loved one feels safe and supported around the clock.

How long is End of Life Care?

It’s different for everyone. It can last a few days, a few months, sometimes even up to a year. And it can start as soon as you and your loved one need it.

Much of this depends on the situation you find yourself in, as people in a variety of situations can benefit from End of Life Care. This includes people who:

  • Have coexisting conditions that mean they’re not expected to live longer than 12 months
  • Have a life-threatening acute condition caused by a sudden catastrophic event, such as a stroke or accident
  • Have an advanced, incurable illness, such as cancer or dementia
  • Have existing conditions that, if they get worse, could suddenly result in death

Advantages of End of Life Care at home

If you’re weighing up whether to choose End of Life Care for your loved one, here’s why you should: because it’ll give you peace of mind, because it’ll mean your loved one gets the best care possible, and because it’ll enable them to spend their remaining days where they feel best – at home.

End of Life Care is also less disruptive than a hospice or hospital care, making what is a difficult period that much more manageable.
