We are proud to have provided Maidstone Community First Responders in our first £500 Community Grant for 2018!

The grant will be used to purchase vital medical equipment including defibrillators to equip their volunteers when attending 999 calls.

Community First Responders are volunteer members of the community who are trained to respond to emergency calls through the 999 system in conjunction with the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Tony has been a member of Maidstone's Community First Responder team for more than a decade. Tony said:
We would like to thank Bluebird Care for this generous community grant, which will make a big difference to our ability to provide lifesaving care.

Community responders are not a substitute for ambulance crews, but because we are all based within the community, we are able to attend the scene of an emergency in a very short time, and in the majority of incidents we are the first on scene.

Our responders provide vital lifesaving first aid before an ambulance arrives, greatly increasing the patient's chance of survival.
In cases such as cardiac arrest, time is really of the essence and the new defibrillators will certainly save lives.

Our Community Grant Scheme has been running for the past two years and  supports local causes through the provision of a £500 grant to a different group four times a year.
Mel, Care Manager, said:
We are delighted to be supporting The Maidstone First Responders with this grant.

The volunteers provide an incredible and selfless service to the community by attending 999 calls ahead of the ambulance arriving and the difference that they make is incredible.
