Bluebird Care Wandsworth in partnership with Alzheimer's Society
As the UK’s dementia specialist in homecare with approximately 60% of our customers living with the condition, we share an ambition to change the lives of those living with dementia, and their families.
There are currently 850,000 diagnosed cases of dementia in the UK with this number expected to hit one million by 2025.
In addition to supporting people living with dementia, The Alzheimer's Society charity fund life-changing research as they strive to make life with dementia more manageable and move ever closer to a cure.
Many people wrongly assume that dementia is a normal part of ageing. Whilst dementia is a complex condition and its causes are not yet fully understood, we do know that it's not an inevitable part of growing old which is why it's so important that we spread awareness about the condition.
To support our aims, we are honoured that Dame Arlene Phillips DBE has agreed to be our first Bluebird Care brand ambassador.
A former dancer, choreographer and theatre director, probably best known as a television judge on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, she is also an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, having firsthand experience of Alzheimer’s with her father. Arlene said:
"It’s so refreshing to be surrounded by people ready to work towards such a clear and important goal. For those of us whose lives have been personally affected by dementia, either directly or through a family member, there are few things more important than knowing that safe, quality care is available to you or the people you love. Bluebird Care have the potential to impact so many lives, and I applaud them for stepping up to the challenge."
All Bluebird Care team members are trained as Dementia Friends - an initiative led by Alzheimer's Society to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of how people live with dementia. It aims to change people's perceptions of dementia, changing the way we all think, talk and act about the condition. Bluebird Care also provide intermediate and advanced training, through a mixture of in-house and external trainers through to an externally recognised qualification.
Together, we are committed to creating a world which better understands dementia and improves the lives of those living with it.
