Story from one of our dedicated Care Assistants
It was a beautiful spring day and I was sitting with MP looking out onto her garden that was starting to bloom with Roses and other colourful Flowers and Shrubs. We began talking about growing flowers and Gardening. I said that I was growing my own sunflowers at home and MP said how she would like to still do some gardening but isn't able to anymore. I said that I just so happened to have a packet of sunflower seeds in my car to which MP eyes lit up and she was keen to see them. I Brought the seeds in and I asked MP if she would like to grow some of her own with a little help from myself, She agreed. I collected some soil from MP’s garden and we began to sow the seeds. MP said that she wasn't sure if they would grow from the soil that is in her garden because it seemed to too thick and clay like. I said that we should still try as we could be surprised and she has such a beautiful garden with lots of plants in already. I filled a seedling tray with soil and MP planted the seeds. We then placed it on the kitchen window sill. As the weeks passed we began to see the seeds germinating and I would show MP every time they got a little bigger. Then one day MP watched on from her sitting room chair as I planted the Sunflower seedlings outside. The weather over the next month or two was a combination of rain and shine but we could see the heads of the flowers forming. On my next visit to MP I looked out of her sitting room window and see 4 beautiful sunflowers in full bloom. I spoke to MP and commented on how beautiful there were. The smile on MP face was priceless! She loves them and can see them from her window every day. MP tells me that she has many comments about her sunflowers when guests visit. They appear to be quite the topic for conversation 🌻
