Expert care for Multiple Sclerosis. In the comfort of home
Living with multiple sclerosis (MS) care doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a vibrant and fulfilling life! In the UK, around 100,000 people are navigating this journey, making it the most common condition affecting the central nervous system.
We understand that receiving an MS diagnosis can feel overwhelming. It’s completely normal for you or a loved one to experience feelings of isolation, fear, or even anger. We recognise the significant changes that come with an MS diagnosis, and we want to support you every step of the way.
Our MS care is all about you and your family. We tailor our services to meet your unique needs, empowering you to face the challenges ahead with confidence and positivity.
What is multiple sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, is a condition that affects how your brain and spinal cord communicate. This can lead to some difficulties with moving around, seeing clearly, and keeping your balance.
In simple terms, MS is an autoimmune disease, which means your immune system gets a bit confused and starts attacking the myelin sheath—the protective layer around your nerve fibres. When this happens, the signals in your nervous system can get mixed up, making everyday activities a little more challenging.
Common symptoms of MS
The symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) can vary a lot from person to person. This depends on which nerves are affected and how much damage has occurred. Some common symptoms include:
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
- Trouble with balance
- Muscle spasms
- Numbness
- Difficulty swallowing
- Challenges moving arms and legs
- Bowel and bladder issues
- Double vision or vision loss
- Memory problems
- Cognitive difficulties
These symptoms can come and go. Some people may feel them regularly, while others might have long stretches—sometimes even months or years—where they feel symptom-free. Over time, as the affected nerves may deteriorate, symptoms can become more noticeable.
Multiple sclerosis support at home
When it comes to treating MS, the main goal is to slow down the progression of the disease and manage any symptoms as they arise. This is usually done through a combination of medications, therapies, and healthy lifestyle changes.
Living with MS can be quite challenging, and that’s why we’re here to offer compassionate support for everyday symptoms and to help improve your quality of life.
At Bluebird Care, our Care Experts are dedicated to helping you manage your condition right at home. We’ll work closely with you to create a personalized MS care plan that fits your unique needs. This may include:
- Helping with medications
- Assisting with bathing and dressing
- Providing support with toileting, including catheter and continence care
- Setting up a regular exercise routine to boost your mood and mobility
- Offering dietary advice and support
- Helping with household chores
