Health & Wellbeing checks: helping you stay one step ahead
At Bluebird Care, we know that staying fit and healthy is key to keeping your independence at home. We also understand how crucial early detection of any signs of potentially declining health is for your ability to bounce back quickly. That's why we offer Health and Wellbeing checks in your home, designed to bring peace of mind to both you and your loved ones.
What is a Wellbeing check?
A senior member of our team will visit your home, bringing with them a Wellbeing kit (a “blue box”) to check that your vital signs are stable. We use a nationally recognised and NHS used scoring system, giving confidence in our findings to your local healthcare professionals.
If early warning signs are detected or require investigation or intervention, We’ll let you know right away and alert relevant healthcare professionals.
NEWS2
NEWS (National Early Warning Score) is a tool developed by the Royal College of Physicians which improves the detection and response to clinical deterioration in adult patients.
It is recognised by GPs, paramedics and all healthcare professionals within the NHS and beyond, and provides an objective and universally-understood means of communicating your condition, which can help, for instance, expedite the arrival of the emergency services at your door if necessary.
Vital Signs
What vital signs do we check?

Our fully trained team monitor several key health indicators, including:
Blood Pressure and Pulse Rate
A blood pressure test checks if your blood pressure is healthy, high, or low. Low blood pressure (hypotension) is usually not a problem, though it can cause dizziness and fainting. High blood pressure (hypertension) increases the risk of serious conditions like heart attacks and strokes if left untreated. A quick test, along with a pulse check, helps assess heart health and could save your life.
Temperature
A high temperature could indicate a fever or infection, while a low temperature might suggest other health concerns.
Breathing and oxygen levels
Pulse oximetry is a test to measure the level of oxygen in your blood. This is called your oxygen saturation level. Pulse oximetry can help to understand if you might have a lung condition. It can also be used to monitor an existing lung condition.
Alertness & General wellbeing
Changes in how awake or responsive someone is can be an early sign of illness, dehydration, or medication effects.

Regular health checks at home
Complimentary Health and Wellbeing checks will be carried out at all Assessments and Reviews of Care but are available on request as part of your ongoing care arrangements if needs or preferences require. And, as with all our care plans, this service is flexible, so it can be adjusted as needs evolve.

Disclaimer: it is important to note that our team who operate the equipment are not medical professionals and cannot interpret, intervene, or offer advice themselves. Readings from the implements contained with the “blue box” are relayed via Bluetooth to a central database via a tablet. Your NEWS2 score is then generated automatically. A reading above a certain level prompts a call to your GP, or possibly the emergency services. Whatever the concern, early detection and communication enables quicker assessment and treatment. The Health and Wellbeing Check is a free, optional service available exclusively to existing customers as part of their care plan. It is also offered during newly booked assessments for potential customers. Participation is entirely voluntary.
